Organo Bonifazi
THE ORGAN AT S.MARIA ASSUNTA’S CHURCH
In the church of S. Maria Assunta, there is a very valuable organ, work of art by Ennio Bonifazi, famous organ craftsman of the XVII century.
Ennio Bonifazi was commissioned by Giovanni Paolo Ciglia to build this beautiful instrument.
On the 12th of July 1633, Mayor Remolo Battista, also known as Pollastro, was present when the commission was made public act.
Bonifazi built an organ which had 12 keys with fluts (11) and the same number of pipes and excellent basses (12) which required the air of three bellows.
The payment agreed upon was of 400 scudi (the local currency at that time), of which 300 were given by Giovanni Paolo Ciglia and the remaining 100 by the Community.
The organ was built between 1633 and 1634; the front is divided into three very elaborate arches with beautiful golden and carved woodwork, strong but sweet keys, all behind which we see the instrument’s twisted long pipes.
Even after the restauration, the quality of its sound remains strong and clear.
After another last, long and detailed restauration, on the 18th of April 2009, this work of art was re-enagurated with a dedicated concert.
